Guiding runs from primary school into young adulthood. Every girl joins a unit that meets near her, with others her own age.
3 - 6 yearsSunrays
About SunraysThe youngest section. Sunrays learn by doing - sports, arts and crafts, games, and the space to try new things.
7 - 10 yearsBrownies
About BrowniesBrownies work in small groups called Sixes, exploring their surroundings through cooking, camping, community projects and more.
11 - 12 yearsJunior Guides
About Junior GuidesJunior Guides run in patrols of eight led by a Captain, and take on what the uniform stands for: promise, loyalty, service and obedience.
13 - 18 yearsRangers
About RangersSecondary school guides, invested at a ceremony of their own, whose motto is “Render Service”.

Who we are
The Uganda Girl Guides Association (UGGA) is a voluntary, non-political organization dedicated to empowering girls and young women through non-formal education, leadership training, and community service. Active across more than 113 districts with over 436,000 active members, it is affiliated with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and became a full member of WAGGGS in 1963.

Every girl deserves the chance to lead
Guiding gives girls a safe place to find out what they are capable of, with other girls their own age and adults who take them seriously.
What you’ll actually do
Weekly unit meetings, camps through the holidays, and the badges, projects and trips in between.
You run the patrol
Guides work in small patrols, and the patrol decides. What you do next term, which badge you go for, who takes which job at camp - those are your choices to make, and yours to carry through. Leadership here is practised, not taught.

Camping and the outdoors
Pitching your own tent, cooking over a fire, walking further than you thought you could. Guides remember camp long after they leave.
Service where you live
Every Guide promises to help other people. Units choose a real need in their own community and do something about it.
Skills you keep
First aid, cooking, budgeting, speaking in front of a room. Practical things that stay useful long into adult life.

Guiding in Uganda connects girls to a worldwide sisterhood while keeping them firmly rooted in their own communities.
Part of WAGGGS
Guiding began worldwide in 1910 and reached Uganda in 1914. We are a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, the largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women.
