This page explains what this website stores in your browser and why. It is a short list, because we keep it that way on purpose.

The short version
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not let anyone track you across other websites from here. Nothing this site stores by itself identifies you: only your choice of light or dark theme, and your answer about analytics. Three Google services set cookies of their own — analytics, which runs only if you agree to it, the map on the contact page, and the spam protection on our forms — and all three are described below.
What we store
Theme preference (local storage, not a cookie)
When you use the light/dark toggle in the header, your choice is saved in your browser under the key theme so the site opens the way you left it. It never leaves your device and is not sent to us. It stays until you clear your browser data.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to count page views and see which pages people find useful, so we know what to improve. It sets cookies in your browser (named _ga and similar) and sends Google information about your visit — which pages you read, roughly where you are, and what kind of device you used.
It only runs if you agree. Nothing is loaded and no cookie is set until you say yes to the banner. If you say no, or simply ignore it, the site works exactly as it otherwise would and we collect nothing. Your answer is remembered in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, so declining leaves nothing behind at all. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal we treat that as a no and never ask.
Spam protection on our forms
Our contact form and the newsletter signup are protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which tells us whether a submission came from a person or from an automated script. To do that it sets cookies and sends Google information about your device and how you interacted with the page. This is covered by Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, not ours.
It loads only when you start filling one of those forms in. Reading the site — news, events, our programmes, anything else — never contacts Google on our account. If you would rather not use it at all, the national office's phone number and email address are in the footer of every page and reach exactly the same people.
Embedded map
Our contact page embeds a Google map showing the national office. When that map loads, Google may set its own cookies under its own terms, which we do not control. If you would rather it did not, block third-party cookies for google.com in your browser, or simply avoid the contact page — the same address is in the footer of every page.
Controlling what is stored
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies and site data from its settings, usually under Privacy. Clearing this site's data will reset your theme choice to your system default; nothing else here depends on it.
