Who we are

Uganda Girl Guides Association (UGGA) is the data controller for information collected through ugandagirlguides.org. You can reach us at thegirlguidesuganda@gmail.com, on +256 414 699330, or by post at Baden Powell Building, Buganda Road, P.O. Box 696, Kampala.

What we collect

When you contact us

Our contact form asks for your name, email address, an optional phone number, the subject of your enquiry and your message. We collect this so we can answer you — nothing more.

When you subscribe to updates

Our newsletter signup collects your email address only, and only when you enter it yourself.

When you simply browse

If — and only if — you agree to it, we use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and how people move through the site. It sets cookies and sends Google information about your visit, including your approximate location and the device you used. We shorten your IP address before it is stored.

You are asked once, and nothing loads until you answer yes. You can change your mind at any time from our cookie policy, which also explains exactly what is set and how to clear it. If you decline, we collect nothing about your browsing at all.

Children's information

This website is written for parents, guardians, volunteers and supporters, and is not intended to collect information from children. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before sending us your details. Membership and registration data about Guides is collected offline, by units and by the national office, and is handled under our child safeguarding policy rather than through this site.

Why we may hold your information

• To answer you. We use enquiry details to reply and, where relevant, to put you in touch with a unit or district near you.
• To keep you updated, where you have asked us to.
• To run the association, including membership administration, camps and training.
• To meet our legal and safeguarding obligations.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. We share it only:

• with the service providers who host this site and deliver our email and analytics, acting on our instructions;
• with Google, when you submit the contact form or the newsletter signup: those forms use reCAPTCHA to tell a person from an automated script, which means Google receives information about your device and how you interacted with the page. It runs only on those two forms, and only once you start filling one in. See our cookie policy for what that involves and how to avoid it;
• with the district or unit you have asked to be put in touch with;
• where the law requires it, or where sharing is necessary to protect a child from harm.

How long we keep it

Enquiries are kept for as long as needed to deal with them and for a reasonable period afterwards for our records, then deleted. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Membership records are kept for as long as the association's constitution and its legal and safeguarding duties require.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• tell you what personal information we hold about you;
• correct anything that is wrong;
• delete information we no longer need to keep;
• stop sending you updates, at any time.

Write to thegirlguidesuganda@gmail.com and we will respond. Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 governs how organisations here handle personal data, and you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Office if you are not satisfied with our answer.

Security

Traffic to this website is encrypted in transit. Access to enquiry and membership information is limited to the people at the national office who need it to do their jobs.

Changes to this policy

We review this policy at least once a year. The review date at the top of this page tells you when it was last checked.
