No Missed School Days
The Uganda Girl Guides Association (UGGA), in partnership with the Uganda Scouts Association and the Scouts and Guides of Finland, spearheaded the #NoMissedSchoolDays initiative to eliminate gender inequality and keep adolescent girls in the classroom. Recognizing that roughly one in ten girls in Sub-Saharan Africa missed school every month due to a lack of menstrual supplies and structural taboos, this gender equality project targeted school groups with comprehensive Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) education. UGGA trained youth leaders, teachers, and students to break period stigmas and craft reusable sanitary pads, providing a sustainable, dignified solution to period poverty. Backed by the Uganda Ministry of Education, the initiative reached over 110,000 individuals through local campaigns and community theatre, successfully awarding thousands of specialized #NoMissedSchoolDays gender equality badges to ensure that a natural cycle never stands in the way of a girl’s academic future.
